Welcome!

I’m Gordon Helsel and I’m running for the House of Delegates to represent the people of the ninety-first District.

I’ve served the people of Poquoson as Mayor for 13 years and as a member of City Council prior to that. I’m honored that the citizens have voted to re-elect me seven times.

I consider myself first a husband and father and second a small business owner, now retired. The decisions that I make as Mayor are built on the foundation of family and fiscal responsibility and I use these values daily to measure the success of my decisions.

I’m ready to bring my ideas, energy and service to Richmond to work on behalf of the people of Hampton, York and Poquoson. I will work to keep our communities vibrant and our way of life secure and I will keep a watchful eye on your money – making sure that it is used wisely and only for what is truly needed.

I believe too many elected officials measure their success on how often they can say or how loud they can yell their slogans. They forget that they are elected to do a job and that the true measure of success is in the quality of the lives of the individuals they serve and the strength of the communities they govern.

Given these tough economic conditions, my time is used only to get the people’s business done -- not the luxury of spending time shoring up the rhetoric of any political party or narrowly focusing on a personal agenda.

As your delegate I will always put the needs of the citizens of the ninety-first House of Delegates District first and my door will always be open to you - to let me know how I’m doing and what you need.

In the next few months I hope to meet every one I can in the district and hear their concerns and personally answer their questions. Feel free to call me or write me an email or a letter and I would be delighted to answer any questions you may have. If you represent a group that would like to hear from me personally, please contact my campaign office. I’m out going door-to-door and I hope that I will have the opportunity to ask you to support my campaign in person.

I thank you for taking the time to consider my candidacy.

Respectfully,
Gordon C. Helsel, Jr. Learn more about Gordon

As every citizen in the Commonwealth is very aware, all 100 seats in their House of Delegates are up for election on November 3rd.
